W. A. Mozart
The curtain-raiser of Mozart’s comic opera: it starts with a whisper of racing strings, bursts into the full orchestra and hardly stops for breath until the last chord. It quotes none of the opera’s tunes; it sets up the mad day to come. The opera was first performed in Vienna in 1786.
